National Give Something Away Day!

Posted by Janet Ellis on

I love, love, love this idea! Submitted to the National Day Curator by Linda Eaton Hall-Fulcher, National Give Something Away Day has officially been recognized by the Registrar at National Day Calendar…and is observed annually on July 15th! That’s to-day! I must have been on the right wave length, because just this morning I went through…actually rampaged in a merciless culling. I took things off hangers and tossed them on the bed, and then one by one neatly folded them and placed them in a bag to be placed at the front door for Paralyzed Veteran’s of America.

Now, that’s not a charity I’ve ever donated to, but they called me last week, and I said yes. Today just happened to be the day they scheduled the pick up. I wonder if they knew that today is National Give Something Away Day. Did you know?

If you didn’t, here’s how it’s celebrated. You want to think of something you want to give away to someone. It can be just like what I did this morning, or you can have some fun with it. Send some flowers to an unsuspecting recipient, spend time with someone who may need some company right now. You could pay for someone’s ticket at a restaurant, buy a drink, drop off a card with movie tickets to someone. Post on social media using #GiveSomethingAwayDay to encourage others to join in paying it forward.

National Give Something Away Day is a day to pay it forward and do something nice for someone, whether it is someone you know or a stranger.

How fun is that?
